What is a Rotaract Club?:

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs can be either community or university-based, and are sponsored by local Rotary clubs. The Rotaract Club of Kowloon Golden Mile is community based. 

In addition to undertaking projects to assist their local communities and to advance international understanding, Rotaractors, as club members are usually called, also engage in activities related to professional development and leadership training. 

Brief Report On District Level Activities:

1) Rotaract District Conference: 25-26 September, 1999.

Four (4) members of our club participated in this event held at the Duke of Edinburgh Training Camp at Tai Po, which included a workshop on AIDS and sex education.

2) Rotaract International Night and "Amazing Trip": 18-24 February, 2000.

Eight (8) members attended a Community Service field trip to Guangzhou Province, China while another ten (10) members attended the International Night, honoured by the presence of R.I. President Carlo Ravizza.


Brief Report On Community Service Activities:

3) Class For Newly Immigrated Children From Mainland China: Alternate Saturdays from October to December, 1999.

Our members conducted English language classes for fifteen (15) students from Primary 1 to Secondary 1 level, who later accompanied our members to sing Christmas songs to residents at a local Centre for the Elderly.

4) Xmas Party For The Elderly - 18 December, 1999.

This even was held at the Un Chau Estate Baptist Elderly Centre and was attended by thirty (30) elderly who enjoyed singing and other performances arranged by seven (7) members and six (6) children.

5) Social Skills Class For Autistic Children - Every Saturday from 26 February, 2000 onwards.

Attended by students from the Society for the Welfare of Autistic Children, the program focuses on helping the students to develop their social skills and to increase their interaction with others.

Club Service Activities:


6) Joint Rotaract Clubs Sports Day: 29 August, 1999.

The five (5) members of our club who attended this event won 1st prize in the Basketball Competition !

7) "Hong Kong Our Home" - Youth Jamboree: 24-26 December, 1999.

This event was organised by the Home Affairs Department of the Hong Kong Government, and five (5) of our members attended this event, along with four (4) Interactors.


Brief Report On Professional Development Activities:

8) 2nd Youth Convention: 12 September, 1999.

Three (3) members attended this event, held at the Baptist University.

9) Workshop on "Communication With Autistic Children": 12 February, 2000.

This event was conducted by an Educational Psychologist and concentrated on teaching our members how to best interact with autistic children.

10) Mentorship Program: March 2000 onwards.

This new program was launched by our club and it is essentially a Vocational Service program volunteers from our sponsoring club allow our members to "shadow" them in their day-to-day activities.
