What is an Interact Club?

Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people age 14-18. Interact Clubs can either be school or community based and are required to carry out at least two service projects annually; one which serves their school or community and another that furthers international understanding.

Although each club is sponsored by a local Rotary club whose members offer guidance, Interact clubs are responsible for planning, financing, organizing, and executing their own projects.

Report from the President:

We have organised two projects with The Interact Club of Ying Wa College this summer.

The first was the Summer Local Project named 情濃神州 which was an eight (8) day tour to Qingyuan in Northern Guangdong. Our aim was to serve poor children in the area. Moreover it  let volunteers from both schools experienced the hard life in villages and provided a chance for Hong Kong students to communicate and share ideas with senior secondary school students in the locality.

Through this project, we practiced teamwork spirit and we learnt to deal with a broad range of people. We learnt more about our country and, last but not least, we treasure what we have now more than previously.

Our second project was called "Super Kids". This nineteen day service project was organised by us in conjunction with the Interact Club of Ying Wa College and the YWCA in Western District. Our aim was to serve children from poorer families in order to build up their self-confidence and help them to assimilate better into society. This service program included a series of indoor and outdoor activities to give the children a more joyous and meaningful summer vacation.

This was a successful project due to it's large scale and multiple activities including handicrafts, singing, drama workshop, English classes and science experiments. Through these activities, children could learn more knowledge outside school and understand better how to cooperate with other people.

SO Chun Yan
Club President.
