The Phantom is in the house:

Yes, yes, I know it's Tuesday in Hong Kong, but it's still Monday in Alaska, so don't give me a hard time, OK?

I spent part of Friday, and dawn to dusk Saturday & Sunday, officiating at a major shooting competition at the Hong Kong Gun Club and I'm only just recovering. It wouldn't have been so tiring if the Swedish Bikini Team were competing but, sadly, the best "eye candy" I saw all weekend was a feisty female competitor (pictured left) who is apparently a big fan of Princess Leia from the movie "Star Wars".

Anyway, I actually made it to our meeting last week, and I was surprised that most members recognised me, eventhough I was disguised as a mere mortal.

Our guest speaker was District Governor-Elect Gloria Chan from the RC Queensway, who gave us a very interesting summary of her experiences at the RI International Assembly held annually at Anaheim, California. We were delighted to learn that, among other things, RI President-Elect Bhichai Rattakul, has not proposed any minimum membership development targets but is, instead, focusing on membership retention.

Our Fearless Leader President Ebe Tung "Chee Wow" was her usual bubbly self, but there was no sign of Sergeant Susie "Madam Lash" Misini, who is reportedly attending the annual general meeting of Fetish Club International.

This Week's Meeting:

This week's guest speaker is Ms. Sheryl Coughlin, who will be speaking to us on "Appreciating Coffee".

Milestones:

There are no KGM members celebrating birthdays this week.

Fellowship News:

1) According to the latest information, the NINC night will be deferred, but I still don't know what is planned for March.

Rumour has it that in light of the forthcoming Easter period, Fellowship Director David "Party Dude" Harilela is considering an "Easter Egg Hunt" fellowship. However my spies tell me that young David is having some problems convincing his Easter Bunny to lay eggs.

Perhaps the problem is that he's using a male bunny? Or a Playboy Bunny ?? Yeee-haaa !!

Anyway, watch this space ----->  <----- for further news, in due course!

2) KGM Attendance Director Neerja "Da Numbers" Sujanani advises that we have been invited by our mother club, the RC Kowloon, to attend their meeting at the Peninsula Hotel, at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday 28 March 2002.

This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy fellowship with our buddies at RC Kowloon and, at the same time, to do a "Group Make-Up", which is the best fun you can have while wearing a Rotary pin. Members who can attend this meeting are asked to contact Neerja by email.

KGM Crystal Anniversary Ball:

This year's Annual Ball, to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel ballroom on Saturday 4 May 2002, celebrates KGM's 15th Anniversary.

Your hard-working Ball Committee, capably lead by joint Chair-Thingies Elissa "Pass The Peanuts" Cohen and David "Party Dude" Harilela (aka "Bonnie & Clyde"), will be doing everything in their power to make this the "Mother Of All Balls" !

Ticket prices have been set at $1,200 per head.

Although this may seem like a high increase over the $1,000 charged last year, this is the first increase in six (6) years and, in any case, it's still a bargain in Hong Kong terms. As usual, our maximum capacity is 450 seats however considering that in recent years we have had +400 guests, we urge you to start forming your table now!

Please contact our handsome and suave table sales guy Pico "Lino" Dialdas by telephone on 2543 8006 or by email to reserve your table.

Note that 26 tables have already been "pre-sold", so don't delay, or you may miss out.

Remember our annual ball is primarily a "Fun Raising" not a "Fund Raising" affair and, if you only go to one ball each year, this is the one!

Dear Geek:

Dear Geek, I've been reading your advice column for many months and I wonder if you could tell us something about yourself? Yours, Lucy .

Who Am I?

What is the more common name of British model Lesley Hornby who was arguably the most famous model in the 1960's and was the first teenager to become a "Supermodel"?

The answer appears at the bottom of this issue.

Cunning Linguist:

Did you ever wonder about the origins of the phrase "Short Shrift" ?

What is a shrift and why is it short?

"Shrift" is an old English word meaning penance. The phrase "short shrift" originally referred to the brief, perfunctory period given to a condemned prisoner to confess his sins prior to execution.

Idiomatically it now means to make short work of something or to give someone very little leeway.

Golden Smile:

Pedro, a Filipino merchant seaman on his first visit to Amsterdam, went to the red light district and entered a "house of pleasure". The madam asks him to be seated and she soon sends over a young lady to entertain her new client.

They sit and talk, frolic a little, giggle a bit, drink a bit, then the girl sits on his lap. He whispers in her ear but she gasps and runs away!

Seeing this, the madam sends over a more experienced girl to entertain the gentleman. They sit and talk, frolic a little, giggle a bit, drink a bit, then she sits on his lap. He whispers in her ear and she screams "No!" and walks quickly away.

The madam is surprised that this ordinary-looking man has asked for something so outrageous that her two girls will have nothing to do with it. She decides that her most experienced lady, Lola, is probably required. Although Lola has seen better days, she has never said no to any man, and it doesn't seem likely that anything would surprise her. So the madam sends her over to Pedro.

They sit and talk, frolic a little, giggle a bit, drink a bit, and then she sits on his lap. He whispers in her ear but she screams, "No Way!", slaps him as hard as she can, and literally runs away!

By now the Madam is absolutely intrigued, having seen nothing like this in all her years of operating a house of pleasure. She hasn't done the physical work herself for a long time, but she did so for many years before she became management.

She has, at one time or another, agreed to do everything a client has requested, so the challenge is irresistible to her. The Madam just has to find out what this man has requested that has made her girls so shocked. She also sees this as an opportunity to show her girls how good she was at what they do.

So she goes over to Pedro and explains that she's the best girl in the house and she is available for him. She sits and talks with him. They frolic a bit, giggle a bit, drink a little, and she sits on his lap.

Finally, Pedro leans forward and whispers in her ear "Can I pay in Philippine Pesos?".

Quotable Quotes:

"You don't appreciate a lot of stuff in school until you get older. Little things like being spanked every day by a middle aged woman. This is stuff you pay good money for in later life.".
