Business
I arrived at 1.10 p.m. just as Rtn Sgt Clarissa was setting
the scene for her fines based on "art" as displayed in clothing, accessories or
other accoutrement. A novel and effective fund raising concept...but we are
still in the dark about PP Vince's red under-garments.
Rtn David then spoke of his close friend who had anonymously
donated HK$20,000 to the KGM Community Service Fund. There followed heavy,
grateful, applause from Rotarians present followed by a suggestion by PP Robin
to make the gentleman a Paul Harris Fellow.
PP Ted Frazier "the fearless leader of the GSE team" then
introduced himself and the other four members (see above) who each spoke
about themselves with strong and proud Tennessee accent. The team very kindly
provided a colourful and informative leaflet giving details of each participant
and some interesting information about Tennessee
(2ns, 2s's, 4e's 'n a Tee!):-
The State flag was designed by LeRoy Reeves, 3 stars for the
3 divisions bound by the endless circle of the blue field - an indessoluble
trinity.
The State Nickname is "The Volunteer State" originating in
1812 when thousands from the State enlisted following Governor Blount's
call.
The State Wild Flower is the Passion Flower while the Iris is
its Cultivated Flower.
State Song (by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant)
Rocky Top. You'll always be
Home sweet home to me.
Good ol' Rocky Top, Rocky Top,
Tennessee, Rocky Top, Tennessee.
I have a copy of the leaflet on the group should any member
care to view it.
The Speaker
Rtn Elissa then introduced our speaker, Dr Susan Fan,
Executive Director of "The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong", who talked
on the subject of sex education and many aspects of the sexual
relationship between couples during the lifetime of their marriage. Dr Fan,
clearly a very qualified and experienced professional in the field of family
planning counselling, first entertained us with a barrage of overhead slide
cartoons illustrating many of the aspects of the subject in a most humorous way.
Following this Dr Fan spoke with deadly seriousness about the work of the FPA in
counselling couples of all ages, one area of which I remember was the need for
couples to talk to each other about all issues, in particular, sex, where there
might be some misunderstanding or other barrier to its successful execution ...
which reminds me of the street pollster who asked a man whether he ever talked
to his wife, to which he responded, "Well, to tell the truth the answer is no
... because since our marriage I've never been able to get a word in at
all."
I have asked Dr Fan if we might have copies of some of the
humorous slides and if successful will include some in future issues of Golden
News. As can be expected there was a healthy and lively question session
following Dr Fan's interesting talk.
On Vocation With Rotarian

Manufacturing Jewellery
Well, fellow Rotarians, there is not much I can tell
you about my transparent life that your do not already know! However, I will
attempt to bore you again.
I was born a long time ago right here in Hong Kong and was
educated here also. My father was a good and handsome man from Pakistan and my
mother was a lovely Cantonese lady who was also born and educated in Hong Kong.
I am married to John, who is a nice Australian whom you have all met
over the years. He is originally from Melbourne and together we have 2 wonderful
sons. Our first born son Jason is 23 and our baby son Ross is 20.
At present
I am running my own jewellery business and I have been doing so
for more than
11 years. My company is Elissa Cohen Jewellery Company Ltd.
located right in
the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui. We export and retail a wide variety of
cultured pearls, Italian gold jewellery and locally produced jewellery with
diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones. We also provide custom-making,
repairs and remodelling services.
In my spare time I like jogging, boxing,
step aerobics, hiking and dancing. I also like to read and listen to music,
especially the golden oldies!!
Today's Meeting
Our speaker for today's lunch meeting is
Dr Desmond Fung, a psychiatrist, who will be talking about
stress and depression, a subject that was suggested to me by a
few Rotarians. (See also Golden News Vol 14 No 31!!)
Dr Fung will be talking about the various
causes and aspects of stress and depression, and management both from the
medical point of view as well as how one handles these common problems on our
own.
PS (From The Phantom)
Just a quick reminder to let you know that this meeting
is on "Secretaries Day", so why not bring your hard-working Secretary to
lunch?
Knowing all of you guys, I am confident she will benefit tremendously
from Dr. Desmond Fung's presentation on "Stress & Depression" !!!
If your
Secretary is *not* hard-working *but* she is still kinda cute, well, bring her
anyway :-)
If your Secretary screens your emails before you do, I bet you're
gonna be in big trouble if you don't bring her now that I've reminded you
!!
