Last Week's
Meeting: It began to the
strains of the theme song of Mission Impossible, a few puzzled Rotarians
looking for the head table, a new Banner Create "Awareness, Take Action"
and a distinct lack of attendees. There were also some who signed in but paid
homage to other chairpersonship in a nearby room. Naughty naughty!! President
Cassidy, wearing his badge of office for the third time, opened the meeting
between the vegetables and the mushrooms or the soup, depending on which of the
three (!!) tables you were sitting at. Rtn. Clarissa did fine on fines,
e.bygumBrian sound bited Rotarian Guests and crypto-Chris having arranged for
the introduction of guests of Rotarians divined there internet passwords.
President Cassidy then spoke modestly about his English before continuing with
an impeccable grasp of the language to tell us of the new International
President's them "Create Awareness (of the needs of our society and of what
Rotary does to address them) and "Take Action" (to get things done). In
accompaniment were colourful overhead projections courtesy of Microsoft and a
computer and a skilled guest of Pres. Cassidy. A major item of business was to
vote on the District Governor's proposal to increase the annual levy from $550
to $1,100. As this proposal had been very narrowly defeated during the recent
District Conference the DG was now without funds to pay salaries, rent and other
costs for established projects. President Cassidy advised that the ballot was in
accordance with the Manual of Procedure and that by and large the commitment per
year by this consolidated levy would not exceed the total of previous levies and
ad hoc appeals. In other words the proposal sought to consolidate the previous
levy, which had remained unchanged for a number of years, and repeated request
during the year for additional contributions. After studying the fuller
explanations in the "Ballot by Letter" papers, KGM's Board had voted in favour
and following some explanation and discussion the meeting voted similarly. The
meeting ended in the customary manner following a terrible joke by yours truly
and to the haunting strains of Mission Impossible.

Quote Of The
Week: You'll never get ahead
until you start advancing. Written by Robert Schuller, submitted by President
Cassidy. Another Q.O.T.W: Any one who isn't fired with enthusiasm should be
fired, .. with enthusiasm! Could have been written by Dale
Carnegie.
